About Us

Colorado Healthcare Coalition has a 5-member Board of Directors.
Meet our directors!
Guinn Unger
President and Director
Guinn has been advocating for universal healthcare for two decades. He has personally seen the problems that our current healthcare system creates for businesses and for individuals. He believes that the only possible solution at the current time is for several states to implement their own single-payer systems. As a Coloradan, he is totally committed to bringing single-payer to Colorado!
Philip Riffe
Vice President and Director
Philip worked as a software engineer in a large corporation where he saw firsthand the deficiencies in having even “good” private health insurance. Since retirement he has volunteered for several organizations working to bring single payer healthcare to Colorado and to America. He believes that a system where everyone is equally provided health care is essential for preserving and strengthening our democracy.
Kirby MacLaurin
Treasurer and Director
A happy great-grandfather, Kirby has seen his precious family struggle with costs for their many healthcare problems. He recognizes that universal single-payer healthcare is far more affordable and humane than our current profit-driven approach. Kirb believes that ALL people deserve comprehensive care from birth to death – that like democracy, it is a human right.
Karen Pontius
Secretary and Director
Karen is a firm believer in the power of grassroots action, saying, “lt’s time for bold forward action, and I’m ‘putting my body upon the gears,’ advocating for change in healthcare, reproductive freedom, a living wage, and more.” She serves on the Durango Library Advisory Board and the board of her Co-op. Born in Los Angeles, CA, she celebrates a diversity of cultures. She’s married, with 9 g-kids ages 1-28, and 3 great-g-kids. She is working for a better world for all of them.
Eileen Monyok
Director
Eileen’s journey to universal healthcare advocacy began when working for 17 years as a Physician Assistant with uninsured patients at a community health center. She saw the severe hardships that people without insurance must face. In contrast, Eileen then worked for two years with Indian Health Services, and saw the benefits of a system where everyone has health care coverage. Prior to her work as a Physician Assistant, Eileen worked for 18 years as an engineer for chemical, utility, and medical device manufacturing companies. She made the decision to leave the corporate world and change careers to escape the unrewarding environment of greed and extreme profit seeking.
Tiffany Brodersen
Former Director
Tiffany has been a grant writer for 14 years. She has worked with various groups from healthcare advocacy, animal welfare, early education, economic development, environment, and more. She is passionate about CHC’s work because she believes healthcare is a right and no one should forgo care because of a fear of the cost.
